Mo. Governor Requests Federal Aid for 18 Southern Counties

March 3, 2008

Gov. Matt Blunt asked for federal money to reimburse local governments in southern Missouri affected by a February winter storm.

Damage assessment teams attributed almost $14 million in infrastructure damage in 18 counties to icy weather Feb. 10-14.

If approved by the president, aid would go to Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Christian, Douglas, Greene, Madison, Mississippi, Ozark, Reynolds, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard, Texas, Wayne, Webster and Wright counties.

In a written statement, Blunt said much of that area also was affected by an ice storm in December and tornadoes in January.
