Tragedies abound in life. Tort law and life insurance policies were designed and intended to address them. Why should the state or federal government be offering voluntary compensation payments to victims? The victim compensation fund set up after the WTC disaster was an example of our socialistic tendencies. Why did the government voluntarily pay the victim’s families an average of $1,000,000? (tax free) This is nonsense.

The basic framework of our country requires government to protect and defend – the government failed to do so in Oklahoma City and on 9/11 in NY, VA and PA. In Minnesota the State was at fault for failure to maintain the bridge. It was deemed safe to use. The State has some level of responsibility to the injured and victims estates.

Eli – your comments are right on unlike our Socialist buddy Matthew. Funds like this one and the one for 9-11 are stupid.
