If these people did not commit a crime in the first place they would not be in prison. i do not understand why these criminals try to get by on oversights because they are the scum of the community and cannot follow basic laws.

So its ok to expose them to cancer because they committed a crime? I understand they shouldn’t get special treatment, and that they are in prison; however, there should be some basic humanity here. Asbestos causes problems and the prison should have removed it a long time ago. Let them serve their time, but don’t subject them to cancer in the process. Also, please don’t try and misconstrue my words as saying I have sympathy for those who break the law. Feel free to call me a bleeding heart liberal as well, though I am not a registered democrat nor have I ever voted for one.

Ever hear of protection from cruel and unusual punishment?

I agree with you Too Bad. Criminals should have no right to sue and no rights at all. If they didn’t murder, rape or assult someone they wouldn’t be in jail allegedly being exposed to asbestos. Sorry to say but IF these criminals were exposed to asbestos, they would not have any symptoms for, at least, 20 years. These allegations are so bogus. I’d bet anyone the attorney faked a test results.

So they break the law, and as the law says you go to jail. I agree. In many cases I don’t think these people can be rehabilitated. The law also says no cruel and unusual punishment. Is not subjecting someone to asbestos cruel and unusual? If they didn’t know about it, fine, just clean it up. But to know about it and not do anything? That to me is just wrong.

Let me just say this: their punishment is being in prison, that is all; making anyone suffer anything other than the loss of their ability to move about freely in society, even the most heinous criminal, goes beyond what is contemplated in the sentencing laws….now if they want redress, then next time sentence especially vile people to the Chilicothe prison, where they will not only forfeit their personal freedom but also expose themselves to asbestos because that is part of the housing; I mean state’s have to get approval to house inmates two to a cell, why not make them get approval to house them in asbestos riddled cells; might go a long way to discouraging return engagements!
