Ah, but man was not built to eat on plants alone! I gotta have my moo, oink and cluck.

And I’ve been in a tofu plant – it’s not better.

There are many new variables. We have a new generation in the workforce with different values than the last ones. We have a different generation able to sue. We have different lawyers. Faster communication. Ease of communication. Better product tracking. Different sources of meat. Different processing equipment. The list goes on.

You’re safer eating whole cuts, especially if you like a little blood in your moo. The rest should be cooked thoroughly. That doesn’t mean shoe-leather, it just means 140 degrees Farenheit in the center. That’s a tasty burger.

Irradiate all organic animal/creature flesh. Oops, this is too easy so it will never be considered. Scientists score zero but the idiots and zealots score 1. More deaths from E.coli ahead. Cooking meat according to health guidelines is also too easy. “There should be no E.coli on anything” whiners score 1. “E.coli is everywhere because humans are lazy, dirty slobs and don’t give a rat’s behind about cleanliness most of the time” realists score zero.
    Here’s three frightful facts:
    1) Go ahead, I dare you to perform this observation: Linger in that public bathroom a few extra minutes sometime and watch how many people enter, perform their chore(s), and do not wash and dry their hands before they leave. You will be disgusted. Concerned yet? Naw…..
    2) Observe how many do wash and might dry their hands, yet using their bare hand grab the scummy door handle (if there is one) on their way out. Not grossed out yet?
    3) When you meet with folks at a restaurant, how many get up and go wash their hands prior to touching something they are going to put in their mouthes? Just how long do you think it was since they did wash their hands? Before you eat, go wash your hands you pigs! And have something like a paper towel (even your shirt tail or sleeve) to touch the bathroom door handle with. Every day I put a clean bandana in my tote bag and stash it in my pocket before going to the bathroom anywhere – just in case…..

Maybe it just wasn’t cooked thoroughly.

and maybe the company was just plain irresponsible with thier handling of the product and shipped a product that was contaminated.

Most people (not all)do not like to cook meat until it is like shoe leather. It shouldn’t be necessary if the processing plant did what they should have been doing.

Oh come on now Claims Guy, you absolutely know it is ALL the fault of the company, I mean, they have the deep pockets so you know these other people did NOTHING wrong.

I’m sorry, I completely forgot that plaintiffs are always negligence free. Fred, “if” is the biggest little word in our language. “If” people did what they should do we’d all be out of work. I’ve seen at least 3 separate recalls of ground beef ro e-coli scares in the past 90-days. I find it more than coincidence that all them occured during the summer months when people are grilling outdoors. All it takes is one edge of a burger not being directly over the heat and here comes the e-coli family. I also find it more than coincidence that after decades of experiencing no major issues that e-coli is becoming such a problem. If the processing hasn’t been altered, what’s the new variable?

And people ask me why I’m a vegetarian…. One recall involving Tofu in the past 10 years; numerous involving animal flesh products.

The new variable is a country where the workers are slipping in accountability and do not care about handling processed meats. I doubt it seriously if people just want their children to get sick or watch a spouse die for the heck of it. Where’s the compassion? Granted people put alot of faith in the foods they buy but not grilling long enough and it’s an epidemic that people are being negligent? Please! It’s the companies not giving a doggone about customers and sometimes it’s the Sam’s Clubs of the world, etc that may not refrigerate/freeze items correctly. Deep pocket or not, when you lose your health or a loved one no amount of money is compensation enough.

Irradiation would solve the problem, but Vegans and organic-nuts scream and holler. I know the Vegans don’t count in this discussion, but they scream about irradiation just the same.

I worked for almost a decade in food manufacturing. I know what the law says about personal sanitation and I know what the reality is. Cook your food people!
