I will vouch for the bridge problems in MO as an IL resident that works in St. Louis. The MO bridges are deplorable. Part of the problem in our area is that MO has been unwilling to work with IL for years and insist that IL residents pay tolls to come to and from MO to work. Since IL is not willing to do this MO will not agree to a joint project so nothing is done. The bridges are dangerous and littered with old truck tires and car parts. I don’t see how their grand declarations serve as a model. Lets just see.
I’m gonna go out and get me a new Bentley and then I’m gonna get me a mansion on a hill somewhere and then I’ll buy myself some mistresses and a swimming pool and a collection of motorcycles and old cars then I’m gonna get me some more houses and take big vacations…and, oh yeah, I’ll order up some cheap materials and fix some bridges.
So what’s the big deal? MO is only doing what it and every other state should have been doing over the last 50 years. Seems nobody in governmental office does anything until there’s some disaster then they all decide to take action. In the meantime, all the pinheaded people who were well paid on the public dole to mange these bridges are probably retired with guaranteed health coverage for life. Now that they’ve squandered all the tax monies, young workers will have to clean up their mess. I’m embarassed that America has done such a poor job of planning for much of anything. The infrastructure of many cities is ready to crumble. Look what happened in NYC last month with the pipe rupture.
