    It would be a good balance to be able to sue the various moronic towns, cities, municipalities that bring such idiotic lawsuits. Causing much expense to prove to the politico’s that the real world is one we all live in.. Quit trying to get something by being a bully!!

    If only government were not so hard to sue, paint manufacturers and low-income-housing residents could join together to sue the cities and states that *required lead paint by law* in their public housing projects.

    These suits make the Cities look like beggars on the street. How in the world do you sue a company that made a legal product at the time of use. Where was the City in enforcing landlords to maintain their properties. These suits would be like suing the auto industry for polluting the air when I was breathing as a young kid in the 60’s prior to emission laws.
    Wow may be on to something !!!!!

    Common sense prevails – these are the most ridiculous lawsuits in a while. Proves that attorneys are leaches looking for any way to scam businesses under the guise of the people. A product strongly endorsed by the government; why aren’t the cities addressing the landowners/homeowners. I mean, if you haven’t painted in 30 years, read the following article;

    Common sense- I think that went out the window when lead paint was legal. I think parents need to watch their kids and stop letting them chew on window seals. How in the world would you get lead paint in your blood stream besides an open wound or ingesting it??

    Congratulations to the judge who decided this frivolous law suit in favor of NL Industries. The use of lead based paint as mandated by certain governmental agencies was legal at the time. The paint companies and lead pigment manufacturers raised the alarm about the dangers of lead based paint decades ago and, by choice, eliminated these products from their offerings. This was the socially responsible thing to do. It was not necessary for the govenment to “protect ” the people by forcing the manufacturers to cease production. It would be interesting to note how many of the low income buildings and homes are owned by state and local governments. The building owners are the culprits due to their lack of maintenence that allows paint to chip off. These ridiculous lawsuits do nothing but line the pockets of lawyers in the private sector and are an unjustified attempt at self-promotion and grandstanding by elected officials who prey on emotion.

    Finally a city and a jury that understands the real situation. Lead paint is a problem but the manufactures are not the remedy. We should hold the homeowners responsible for allowing there property to reaxch such bad shape to endager our children

    I find of interest that these lawyer firms are going after the Companys for selling a product that was legal and specified in state and city bids, rather than suing the owner’s of these buildings for not taking proper care of their properties or warning their tenants about lead danger. It would’nt be $$$ could it.

    IIRC, all of the major paint manufacturers stopped making lead based paints years before it was banned.

    The paint companies got sued because right now, they have the depest pockets of anyone that an enterprising plaintiff could file suit against. Notice how the cities that bring suit are always doing so because of low income housing.

    Using the poor for lawyers to get a payday isn’t a new thing, it’s been a game in this country for over a hundred years. In this case, the scumbags use poor children in low income housing that hasn’t been maintained for over 30 years and try to shakedown the paint corps for some blood money.

    Thankfully the paint companies have fought back and won’t “just settle” to stay out of court. Good for them, good for the judge, and hopefully this foolishness can stop someday.
