Part of this guys sentence should be to participate during a regular work week throughout the rebuilding of the Cathedral….Some of the back breaking work of debris removal, mixing mortar, carring bricks and stone, and doing the dirtiest and most labor intensive work on the project. Who knows, he might “get religeon” and would be paying back for a portion of the misery and sorrow he caused hundreds if not thousands of parisioners who cherish this church. Oh, and make sure he has enough pills. I think God would smile with this kind of a sentence. Shall I expect a hundred commets from bleeding heart liberals that this would be cruel and unusual punishment?
There are thousands of homeless “mentally ill” people on the streets all over the country thanks to the reform that closed places like Bellville – It is now going to cost the tax payers about $20,000 a year to give this guy a free ride – What does he care that he is in prison – Wisconsin’s daily per inmate cost is reported to be $53.51 – and that doesnt take into account special care for mental issues or medications. Winters are pretty cold – I’m sure he’s smiling all the way to the slammer
I don’t really have a problem with it as such since its not that far off from mandatory community service. Just if this guy really is mentally ill and dangerous, giving him a shovel and easy access to bricks probably isn’t that great an idea.
don’t forget the health care he will receive while in prison. It’s disgusting that we treat prisoners better than the working poor and “homeless” in this country. If I was “homeless” I would commit a crime to have a roof, 3 hots a day and healthcare.
is that all that stopping you from committing crimes? And what crime would you commit if you were homeless?
If you think prison is like some old folks home you are living in a fantasy world. If you went to prison you’d be crying for your mommy in under an hour. And you’d be sporting broken bones and bruises within days. Even in a women’s prison. Its no walk in the park like some misguided people proclaim.

Tired of living in the streets perhaps?
Its funny I thought that very same thing just reading the headline…. 15 years with a roof over his head, three meals a day, and a bed to sleep in…
