I hate to disagree but by-product (as it relates to pet food) can never be healthy. It consists of grade x meat and meat parts (including, but not limited to diseased and euthanized farm animals)and no matter how they are processed, these things are NEVER EVER safe. Feed your dog whole, human grade food or pet food with NO by-products of any kind (try Natural balance raw – very good stuff). In regard to the suit…a 9 year old cat should have been to the vet many times and it could have been very sick already, who knows? but for those who genuinely lost a healthy animal, there should be investigation as to whether the company DID delay the recall and whether it therefore owes compensation for vet bills and the pets purchase price. It is unknown at this time and to jump to a conclusion EITHER way is improper. Take care of your pets – feed them well, take care of their health well and love them well. \”We give pets all the space we can spare, all the time we can spare and all the attention we can spare; in return, pets give us their ALL.\”

She took her 9 year old cat to it\’s first ever vet visit the day of the recall? ….

I\’d like to see more in the article about what a necropsy on the cat showed.

At 9 yo the cat is a senior and my have had underlying health issues that were not diagnosed b/c it was not taken to a vet for a yearly check up. This lady may have some real problems with her case.

This loser is suing, yet she never took her cat to the vet? Wow. She\’s looking to cash in. Any reasonable person (with money) would take their cat to the friggin vet!

Or the 9 year old cat may have been just fine – until it ate the contaminated food. Regardless, the manufacturer should have reacted much more quickly.

    Ok, Folks,

Is it only me but doesn\’t anyone research what they are feeding their pets? Most pet food in the stores are made from By-Products and list corn as their first ingredient which has no nutrional value, just a filler and Vets push Science Death(Diet) since Hills provides the only nutrition education to vets (Money talks, folks) Do your homework and find a pet food manufacturer that provides healthy food produced in a clean enviroment. Not a mass producer who just puts labels on.

I just want to say that I am quite a state I bought a packet of mighty dog as a treat for my dog Mija just over a month ago,she died of a sudden case of renal faliure days later. It not only saddens me to think giving her a treat killed her ,but now anger is taking the place of just missing her. I also would like to know what I can do about this situation.

here here! unfortuntely no- people don\’t read the lables and they don\’t know the difference between healthy pet foods and crap.

what is even more unfortunate is that this company acted irresponsibly and were slow to respond, and then tested the problem products on more animals.

When I first heard about it, I called Mum because I know her 3 kitties like the cuts and gravy style food. Thankfully, she feeds them one of the few brands that weren\’t on the recall list.

My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a pet due to this and to everyone who is nursing a sick pet.

The whole thing makes me so sad.

Depending on how the Chicago woman goes about her lawsuit, I think a class-action would be appropriate in this instance. People should be compensated for the loss of their pets and their vet bills.

Another emotional, knee-jerk reaction to SUE. I\’m sure some plaintiff attorney will jump on this bandwagon for a fee. What is the purpose of the suit? To punish the manufacturer? For what? A mistake? The standard of care for animals isn\’t the same as that of humans. What are the damages? How much emotional distress can on have from the death of a pet? All pets die sooner or later. What a wonderful world.
