Anyone can purchase auto insurance in the state of Illinois for six months or a year on an installment plan and not pay another premium after their initial deposit. They still have a \”valid\” (on paper) insurance card as far as law enforcement officials are concerned. Illinois needs proof of insurance than can be checked when a person is stopped or proof that is tied to a registration so when the policy is terminated, the state is notified.
