Indiana Insurer Offers Midwest Tornado Disaster Preparation Guide

July 13, 2006

Indiana Insurance, a member of the Liberty Mutual Group, has released a six-page Disaster Planning Guide available to its 92,000 homeowner insurance customers throughout the Midwest.

The Guide, which provides tips on protecting homes during tornado season, is available to policyholders on the Indiana Insurance Consumer website at www.indiana-ins.com. The guide helps policyholders develop an action plan for possible evacuation, details what necessities should go into an emergency kit, and explains the importance of undertaking a household inventory among other important safety tips.

“We want our policyholders to be as ready as they can be to get out of harm’s way and that starts with careful planning well in advance of a storm,” said Indiana Insurance President and CEO Rick Bell. “Knowing that you have adequate coverage for your property is also an important part of disaster planning and our independent agents are ready to assist our policyholders in evaluating their individual needs.”

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there have already been over 900 reported tornadoes this year through June and the peak tornado season for the northern United States is during the summer months. Indiana Insurance urges homeowners to monitor National Weather Service tornado forecasts, have a family disaster plan in place, an emergency kit ready to go, and know the safety precautions you can take if a tornado strikes with little warning at www.nws.noaa.gov/safety.php.

In the event of catastrophic losses in the region Indiana Insurance serves, mobile claims teams will be strategically dispatched to the centers of impacted areas to ensure prompt and accurate claims service.

Indiana Insurance, part of the Liberty Mutual Agency Markets, offers property and casualty products, including a comprehensive set of personal and commercial coverage, distributed only through appointed independent agents. Headquartered in Loveland, Ohio, Indiana Insurance provides insurance in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
