Hey Dave, great argument…\”loss of productivity due to injuries caused by motorcycle accidents\”. Again the almighty dollar driving decisions?

Again we see more great arguments coming from the law community. Dave, I suppose your idea of productivity is talking business on your cell phone while driving. You better wear a helmet while you drive your Mercedes down the road because what little brain matter you command, will likely be stifled by the accident you cause driving productively with your cell phone in your ear.

Now that felt good….Good luck to you Dave.

What crap. The only thing the insurance companies are worried about is their bottom line. If Granholm and the insurance companies really want to do something that will save lives, they should provide funds for rider education in this state. The false sense of security that a usless helmet provides is whats getting riders killed.

Only a lawyer could argue that destroying my freedom will ensure I\’m able to enjoy it. What a crock.

Helmet laws save lives by driving bikes off the road, which is fine with the insurance industry. That\’s why they only mention fatality totals, which are a function of the riding population.

You never see them mention the percentage of fatal motorcycle accident victims. It\’s always 3%, regardless of helmet laws.

So before any knuckle-heads respond to this message, check these facts first. Then go wear a helmet every time you drive your car, because that\’s where half of all head injuries come from.

Why is it that they say this is a free country when we have to pay for everything we do ,insurance is the worst and taxes well you know we pay them to keep suit and tye a–h-les in office so they can tell us how we are suppossed to live our lives , well take a politition and keep the achohol away from him and see what happens ,its a tough calll when congress has more criminals per membership than any motorcycle group

2 things you should know – I live in SC and do not ride motorcycles. However, we do not require helmets in SC. There was an editorial in today\’s greenville news that seemed interesting

    – per the editorial – last year 70% of the 94 bikers who died in SC were not wearing helmets. In 2004 81% of 88 bikers were died in SC were not wearing helmets – this is the highest % of non-helmeted biker fatalities in the nation according to the Nat. Hwy traffic Safety Admin.

The NHTSA estimates that helmets are 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcyclist. That means for ever 100 riders killed in crashes while not wearing a helmet – 37 of them could have been saved had all 100 worn a helmet.

The injury & death rate for motorcyclists in SC jumped sharply after lawmakers gave riders 21 and older the option of not wearing a helmet. Fatalities continue to rise in SC and the state is \”is on pace to set a new record of more than 100 biker fatalities this year.\”

Granted there could be other factors that contribute to the high biker fatality rate here – but the fact that we do not require helmets seems to be a part of it.
