Insurance Department Deputy Director Honored by Ohio University

Ohio Department of Insurance Deputy Director Holly Saelens recently was recognized at the Ohio University (OU) State Government Alumni Luncheon at The Athletic Club of Columbus for her outstanding achievements in public service.

Saelens received the State Government Alumni Award for significant professional achievement, public service to Ohio and service contributions to Ohio University’s public affairs programs.

Saelens joined the department in January 2000 as the assistant director of Policy and Legislation and was promoted to deputy director in June 2004.

Prior to joining the department, Saelens served as the director of Public Policy Services for The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA), a statewide trade association representing the interests of Ohio manufacturers. At the OMA, she specialized in environment and health care policy. Saelens has also served as a legislative liaison for The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. She began her career in public service as a Legislative Service Commission intern before becoming a legislative aide to a State Senator.

Saelens graduated from Ohio University with a degree in History and a minor in Business Administration. She received a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from The Ohio State University.

Ohio University’s Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science co-hosted the 23rd annual event, which honored more than 150 OU alumni from Ohio’s public sector.
