May 10, 2006

A Scottsbluff, Nebraska resident has been released on $2,500 cash bond in a hit-and-run vehicular homicide case.

Scott Freouf is accused of running a stop sign on Oct. 29 and hitting a pickup in which Lester Bell was a passenger. Police said Freouf, 44, left the scene.

Bell, 74, died Nov. 18 from his injuries.

The arrest affidavit filed in Scotts Bluff County Court says Freouf’s driver’s insurance had expired and that Freouf had reported his car stolen. The car was found abandoned after the fatal crash.

Freouf was identified as the driver the day of the crash by a witness, according to the arrest affidavit.

Freouf will make his first court appearance May 12.
