I use to live in Indiana and when I needed healthcare the most, I didn\’t qualify. I made $8/hr and had a son. You know what the state told me? I made too much money! That if I wanted the healthcare coverage I would need to QUIT MY JOB and find a job THAT PAYS LESS to qualify OR GIVE THE STATE THE $$ I made over what they call the poverty level. Maybe if the state officials had to try and live at an $8 an hour wage they would really see what \”poverty\” was. Notice the $40k poverty level is for a family of FOUR. I was a family of TWO and my income was too much. Go Figure!

Heather-I agree with you. The system is like that in PA as well. Their is no incentive for low income people to work. The system exisits for \”No Income\” people who are the reason that we are in this mess. Perhpas the politicians should regulate their mating habits and ensure that it comesurates with their workability.

I am amazed at the number of articles (not just this one) that tout Health Savings Accounts as the solution to lack of insurance. If the uninsured can\’t afford the monthly health insurance premiums, where do they figure the money will come from for the HSA?
