General Casualty Assists with Hurricane Relief Help

For the second time in less than a year, Wisconsin-based General Casualty and its employees answered a call for financial help, donating more than $42,000 this week to the American Red Cross Response Fund in support of hurricane relief efforts in the South.

“2005 has been a year of natural disasters large and small – including tornadoes in our backyard and hurricanes that have destroyed our policyholders’ property and claimed lives in the South,” said Hollie Bowker, General Casualty corporate relations manager. “Our employees have once again responded generously to the nation’s request for financial assistance.”

Employees of General Casualty and Winterthur U.S. Holdings Inc. contributed approximately $21,625 to aid hurricane victims. To increase the value of employee donations, General Casualty contributed 50 cents for every dollar donated, in addition to a $10,000 corporate gift. In January, the company organized a similar donation campaign and collected more than $30,000 for international relief efforts in Southeast Asia.

General Casualty to date has received 950 hurricane-related claims. The company projects approximately $12 million in total losses from the storms.
