Maybe if the state of Ohio had invested the money that was designated for worker injuries a little more prudently they wouldn’t have to cut rates and imperil the whole system. The Ohio Legislation foolishly authorized the Ohio WC Bureau to invest in rare coins and memorabilia a few years ago and the Bureau did just that buying rare coins, Marilyn Monroe pictures, Presidential Christmas cards, autographs of famous people, etc. The coin dealer who was paid a million dollar fee to buy the material for the Bureau has already admitted stealing 13 million dollars of the coins in the “collection”. At the same time, most of Ohio’s state-wide politicians including members of the Supreme Court and Governor Taft, were taking campaign contributions from the same coin dealer. Now the Bureau says they have lost 300 million dollars of their fund due to poor investments. At least one of the institutions that produced the loss was also making contributions to the politicians in power. This is a very sad situation and we need a real house cleaning here in Ohio to get the State back on track.
