Milwaukee Man Sentenced in Medical Scam

June 29, 2005

Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager announced that a Milwaukee County man has been convicted and sentenced in Milwaukee County Circuit Court for billing the state Medicaid program for transportation services he did not provide.

Kevin D. Johnson, 40, pled guilty to four felony counts of medical assistance (Medicaid) fraud and was sentenced to nine months in the House of Corrections on each count, consecutively.

The Court stayed the sentence and placed Johnson on probation for four years. As a condition of probation, Johnson must maintain full-time employment, pay $2,500 in fines and $25,407 in restitution.

According to the Department of Justice’s criminal complaint, Johnson owned a specialized medical vehicle service called Hospitality Care Transportation, which provided transportation services to Medicaid recipients. Between January 2003 and June 2004, Johnson billed the Medicaid program for transportation services that had not been provided. Johnson was paid in excess of $25,000 by the Medicaid program for these claims.
