Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle this week declared a state of emergency in Langlade County following severe flooding caused by rapid snowmelt and weekend heavy rains. Approximately 50 people and a dozen businesses have been evacuated due to the flooding.
“I admire the courage of the people of Antigo and other communities as they respond to the flooding, and I’m thankful no one was seriously injured,” Governor Doyle said. “I will continue to do everything possible to make sure people and communities impacted by floodwaters get the help they need to make a quick recovery.”
The state of emergency directs state agencies to assist local governments in recovering from this natural disaster. Governor Doyle has ordered Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) to lead the state’s efforts.
In addition, the Governor approved the mobilization of about 30 members of the Wisconsin National Guard to assist emergency responders in perimeter security, evacuations, and sandbagging.
