North Dakota Workers Compensation is notifying injured workers this week that they will now have the option to receive their compensation payments every 14 days and have their checks electronically deposited into the financial institution of their choice.
The change will not affect the total amount injured workers are entitled to receive. However, the frequency change will mean the amount of each check will be a 14-day amount rather than a 28-day amount.
NDWC Executive Director and CEO Brent Edison said the changes came in response to requests from injured workers made in customer service surveys. On a quarterly basis an independent research company surveys injured workers who are receiving workers’ compensation benefits to try to identify ways NDWC can improve the services it provides.
“One suggestion frequently made is to be able to receive compensation checks on a biweekly basis, which is the way many employers pay their employees prior to injury”, Edison said. “Another common request is electronic funds transfer, or as it is more commonly known, direct deposit. NDWC takes these suggestions very seriously, and we have been working to expand the payment options we provide to injured workers.”
About 3,200 injured workers receive some type of workers’ compensation check from NDWC each month.
Beginning this week, injured workers who are eligible for the new optional payment methods will be notified by mail.
