    Those taken into slavery were the lucky ones. Slaves were captured in warring tribes conflicts, and those not put into slavery were executed. There is no question that those enslaved faced brutality in the initial enslavement in Africa, and later in the transatlantic voyage. Although there are torturous individuals in any society – those who beat horses and kick dogs; they are the exception. However once sold in America, most slaves were treated well because one does not mistreat a $50,000 property (the cost in today’s terms) They were given housing, clothing and food.

    This is born out by a large majority returning to their previous masters after emancipation.

      to Gordon Lewis.. you must not know of the life of a slave in America during those times… LUCKY?? no the ones who died before making it here were the lucky ones… they literally treated them less than animals… where’d you get your heavily biased information…? nothing you said was factual… you might wanna dig deep into American history… for you know nothing about American slavery.. typical of a European settler…
