Andrew J. Pinkes is joining XL Group’s insurance operations as executive vice president, global head of claims, stepping into the position currently held by Paul I. Tuhy, who will now lead XL Group’s Aerospace business.

According to Greg Hendrick, Chief Executive of XL Group’s insurance operations, “XL is known for taking on businesses’ toughest risks. Insuring complex risks requires proven experience and expertise to resolve complicated claims situations to help our clients recover and get back to their business. Under Paul’s leadership, we have done just that — and through some very significant industry loss events. It is on that strong foundation that we are excited to have Andy join XL and lead our claims organization to the next level. His combination of industry leadership and handling complicated claims, coverage disputes, and liability issues uniquely qualifies him for this role. Paul’s industry experience will bring an exciting perspective to our Aerospace business. Attracting and retaining top talent is at the core of our strategy and we feel this is an excellent example of this in action.”

Pinkes joins XL Group from The Hartford, where he most recently served as executive vice president of claims, and president of its Heritage Holdings, Inc., a company that manages The Hartford’s domestic and international property and casualty run-off operations. He joined The Hartford in 2003 as senior vice president of its Complex Claims Group. His 20-year insurance industry career also includes positions with The Travelers which included the position of senior vice president and general counsel of Traveler’s Special Liability Group where he managed coverage and liability issues related to asbestos, environmental and other complex tort claims.

In his new role, Tuhy will manage XL Group’s Global Aerospace team which provides insurance coverage for a global book of airline business, products manufacturers, general aviation and space risks around the world. He previously managed XL Group’s claims operations in Continental Europe and Asia, and served as head of claims for North America when he joined XL in 2003.

His 30-year insurance career also included positions with Kemper Insurance Company, Reliance National Insurance, Blackmoor Group, Cigna Property and Casualty, Consolidated Adjusters, and Cincinnati Insurance Company.

Pinkes will be based in Hartford, Connecticut and report to Greg. Tuhy will continue to be based in XL’s New York office and report to Neil Robertson, chief executive of XL Group’s Specialty Insurance operations, based in London.
