    In addition to greed, denial and self-deception has disabled the world’s powerful corporations and countries in the face of rapid, abrupt climate change. Often the scientists who best understand the problem are hamstrung by their own cultural practices that demand an excessively stringent standard for accepting any claims of any kind – even those involving imminent threats. Therefore, expert scientists have consistently underestimated the timing and extent of change.

    In other words, we won’t know about the immediate future of such things like ice sheets disintegration until the waves are lapping at our doors. So much for the precautionary principle.
