This is the first really good article that I’ve read about the Christchurch quake – well, not really good, but ‘how it really is’. It is so sad that the Council is ‘infighting’ whilst people in the suburbs are struggling. Many people are still awaiting decisions on their land by CERA (Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority) and many are still awaiting insurance payouts from their insurers (one year later). I’ve read a lot of ‘spin’ in other papers, but the truth is the rebuild isn’t happening because there is no insurance and the EQC (The Government Department set up years ago to insure the land), is not paying out. People can’t leave until this occurs.
