Is this translated from another language?

Since when do volcanoes spew “larval dust”? And, we should watch out for engines “…thickened with larva..” and then “…clumps of larva” spewing from the jet engines.

Gives new meaning to “working the bugs out of the system”, I suppose…

    ha, ha, ha

Kids, in the section “What happens inside the jet engine?”, in addition to using the wrong words (larva & larval instead of lava), lava is not the problem. Lava is molten rock, typically found flowing on or near the surface of the earth when it is spewed out of the volcano.

The jet engines discussed in the article are encountering volcanic ash – not lava – high above the earth’s surface.

Also, a better word to use in place of “bunged up” is “occluded”. It is more precise and not a casual vulgarity.

This level of writing is similar to the libelous article by the New York Times a couple weeks ago about how the Pope allegedly was dismissing and covering up the Milwaukee pedophile priest abuse case. The woman (don’t have her name handy) did a complete rewrite that the NYT printed, but it was on p. 6 or so – not the front page unlike her first, incorrect article. But the scandal was created any way.

Good writing is reflective of clear thinking. Something the world desperately needs nowadays.

Another good example of why you shouldn’t believe that media reporting is accurate.

The pedophile priest scandal was done a whole longer ago than last week with a poorly-edited article in the NY Times!

True – and I certainly was not dismissing that evil.

I was merely stating that fact that the NY Times ran a front page article on the latest publicized abuse scandal that was so factually incorrect apparently the entire article needed to be re-written, not just a one-line correction.

I was talking about sloppy reporting & sloppy writing (assuming the NYT writer didn’t have a hidden agenda).

And in that important sense or angle, I related it to this IJ article that states lava & larval occurring at high altitudes, etc.
