UK’s Chartered Insurance Institute to Hold Counter Terrorism Workshop

December 3, 2008

The UK’s Chartered Insurance Institute Group’s London Market Faculty has teamed up with the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command to hold a counter terrorism workshop for all businesses in the insurance industry.

Named “Project Argus,” it “will feature a multi media simulation of an attack where delegates will be faced with a series of questions and dilemmas to resolve, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn how to protect a business and its employees,” said the announcement.

Gillian Donegan, Manager- General Insurance at the CII Group, pointed out: “The terrorist attacks in London in July 2005 – not to mention the recent events in Mumbai – continue to dramatically highlight the need for businesses of all sizes to plan how they deal with the devastation and business disruption caused by a major incident.”

“This workshop will not only be vital to the organizations that attend, but it will assist employees in advising customers to prepare their own business continuity plans, whilst also encouraging organizations to be in a position to meet the immediate needs of their customers should an attack occur. It will also be extremely beneficial for brokers and underwriters directly involved in this class of business,” she added.

The CII said the “workshop raises awareness about the continuing threat from terrorism and provides practical advice on preventing, handling and recovering from such an attack. It will provide delegates with chance to work directly with experts from the emergency services in understanding their response to an incident, counter terrorism security measures and business continuity.”

The event is scheduled for Tuesday the 10th of February 2009 at the CII Hall, 20 Aldermanbury, London EC2 7HY. The cost to attend is £45 ($66.20) to attend (£35 [$51.45] for CII members), and will last for three hours.
