Crawford to Pilot UK’s Chartered Insurance Institute Program

December 2, 2008

The UK’s Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) announced that Crawford & Company “is to be the first to pilot its ‘Service in Insurance Certified Learning Program’ (SII). It will form a key element of Crawford’s induction and development programs for internal claims handling staff.

“Crucially, the Program will provide an objective, external benchmark for development activity, enhancing the credibility and value of learning achievements.”

The bulletin also noted that Crawford is “keen to further develop levels of technical knowledge and competence as a way to enhance its customers’ experience.”

Benedict Burke, Crawford’s CEO – UK & Ireland, commented: “Our existing training and development program, delivered via Crawford College, is sophisticated and comprehensive, but we are always looking for ways to improve. The Service in Insurance Program will help our existing staff to build careers, and it will also help us attract and nurture the right caliber of people as part of becoming an ‘Employer of choice’ serious about winning the war for talent.”

The CII also pointed out that it has “developed a range of products and services designed to help insurance employers win the ‘War for Talent’ against rival professions.”

Steve Jenkins, CII Director – Financial Services Markets, explained: “Firms need cost-effective, targeted solutions to help them recruit and retain the type of staff who are going to improve customer satisfaction levels by delivering first-class service. We have designed the Service in Insurance Program to be accessible, flexible and effective for all types of insurance business.”

The Service in Insurance Program is available via the CII’s online learning portal and supports the development at foundation level of technical, business and interpersonal skills. It is modular in structure, allowing training managers to incorporate it into existing routines. The online nature of the Program helps employers gain maximum advantage from their investment.

Burke added: “Online learning is a powerful component in today’s learning environment. It is cutting-edge but, thanks to the CII’s experience and expertise, the Service in Insurance Program is delivered using a proven approach. It will sharpen Crawford’s focus on our clients’ needs and assist us in complying with relevant regulation, particularly the Treating Customers Fairly regime. I think they will see real value in the externally accredited benchmark and skills it provides.”

“Companies will succeed or fail in the future according to the quality of their people. We believe the Service in Insurance Program will help us move from strength to strength.”
