Sooooo… let’s get this straight. The last time it happened it was a natural occurance, but the next time is happens it is due to anthropogenic causes. Right.

Report co-author S. Fred Singer said: “The current warming trend is simply part of a natural cycle of climate warming and cooling that has been seen in ice cores, deep-sea sediments, stalagmites, etc., and published in hundreds of papers in peer-reviewed journals. The mechanism for producing such cyclical climate changes is still under discussion; but they are most likely caused by variations in the solar wind and associated magnetic fields that affect the flux of cosmic rays incident on the earth’s atmosphere. In turn, such cosmic rays are believed to influence cloudiness and thereby control the amount of sunlight reaching the earth’s surface and thus the climate.” Our research demonstrates that the ongoing rise of atmospheric CO2 has only a minor influence on climate change. We must conclude, therefore, that attempts to control CO2 emissions are ineffective and pointless — but very costly.

Also; I noticed that they are referring to the sea water surface temperatures which is one of the main causes and mediating effects of hurricanes. Anyone whose has been to the coast knows there is a big difference between air temp & water temp. Even so, they conveniently fail to mention that the ice packs in the interior of Greenland & the Antarctic are thickening faster than previously recorded. Oh; one more thing, as Columbo used to say, what about all the polution that stopped with the fall of the Soviet Union and its satellite slave states.

how can you have a scientific perspective that says the additional change/impact made by 6 billion people has no effect? while it may not be a major part of a climate change, it doesn’t seem reasonable to say that would have a negligible impact. it has to have some affect!

Little Frog, there’s a reason amphibians don’t rule the world, and that your puny kind tend to go extinct first, you cute little indicator species, you. You surely don’t think that the former Soviet states just rolled up the rugs and started eating nuts and berries, do you? Most of their industrial infrastructure is still in place and desperately needed to shore up their sad little economies, and still as foul and antiquated as it ever was under the Soviets. Only a few major problem areas (i.e., the Aral Sea) have been reversed. How many heads do your cousins around Chernobyl have, by the way?

Interestingly, Mammal, when the USSR collapsed the international climatological community lost 8 or 10 temperature recording stations that Russia could no longer afford to operate–in some of the coldest segments of the planet.

What do you think that did to the average temperature measured? It spiked. Then it hasn’t gone up at all since.

    A couple of questions?

    1) Which can produce more CO2, a large (ie. Mt St Helens) volcanic eruption or all the manmade CO2 produced in one year?
    2) What happened to the hole in the ozone layer?
    3) What is the optimal “global temperature” and why is that the optimal. Also how do you measure global temperature?
    4) If we outlaw the internal combustion engine, what will we replace it with?
    5) Electric and Hybrid cars use batteries. Batteries have a great amount of acids. How do we dispose of the acid once it is spent?
I look forward to your answers.
