Marsh Establishes Middle East Forensic Accounting, Claims Practice

Marsh announced from Dubai that it has established a Forensic Accounting and Claims Services (FACS) Practice for the Middle East and North Africa, which will be based in the city on the Persian Gulf. Ian Peters, formerly a Senior Claims Consultant with the FACS team in London, will lead the FACS Practice.

“FACS assists clients that have suffered a loss arising for a variety of reasons, including property damage or a commercial dispute,” Marsh explained. “The practice helps companies effectively manage their claim submission, from preparing claims to negotiating settlements. In addition, it can arrange expert witness services and provide access to local teams around the world to assist with recovery and planning on the ground in the aftermath of an incident.”

Peters will be responsible for building a claims consulting practice, offering the full range of claims and dispute quantification and management services to corporate clients and prospects in the Middle East and North Africa region. He will also deal with general claims-related issues in the region for Marsh.

Robert Makhoul, Head of Marsh’s Middle East Operations, commented: “Increasingly, companies in the Middle East and North Africa are thinking in a more sophisticated way about risk. The decision to form a dedicated practice based in Dubai reflects client demand in the region for expert claims advice. Marsh is extremely committed to building its business in the Middle East and North Africa, enabling us to continue to serve these important markets well.”

Peters added: “Even with extremely robust risk management systems in place fires, windstorms and many other unforeseen events can cause significant disruption to business. How the insurance claim is handled can be essential to a speedy recovery. This includes receiving timely and expert guidance through the complex range of claims-related issues. As the interdependency of risk increases in the region, so will the demand for the kind of expert claims advice we can now offer our clients.”

Marsh noted that the move “is the latest in a series of developments for Marsh in the Middle East and North Africa this year, following the establishment Marsh Oman LLC, a joint venture between Marsh and the Zubair Group, in May, and its application for a license from the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority in March.”
