TS Ingrid Forms

Ingrid, the ninth named tropical storm of the season, has formed in the Atlantic. According to the latest bulletin from the National Hurricane Center in Miami, the storm is currently located about 840 miles (1355 kms) east of the Lesser Antilles. Ingrid is “moving toward the west-northwest near 6 mph (9 km/hr), and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.”

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/hr) with higher gusts. The NHC said, “a small increase in strength is possible during the next 24 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 50 miles (85 kms) from the center.”

According to the NHC’s five-day tracking forecast, Ingrid is expected to move along a more northerly course than Dean and Felix, and would not enter the Caribbean. However, on the course as currently charted, it’s heading straight for the Carolina’s.
