The H5N1 virus is currently an avian flu, meaning the viral reservoir is birds. The virus is slowly improving to increase it\’s species range by sharing mutations via coinfections within birds. In other words, different strains of influenza that evolved in geographic pockets are cross-pollinated by migratory birds.

Therefore to avoid this cross-pollination, as well as aerial bombardment dispersion far and wide, avian migratory reservoirs of the virus should be culled. In other words, either cull migatory birds, or suffer a flu pandemic.

I recommend Dr Osterholm\’s \”Preparing for the Next Pandemic\” for details on what a modern flu pandemic will look like. It is highly preferable to cull migratory birds than to suffer a severe flu pandemic.
