Massachusetts Man Charged With Stealing $1M in Computer Equipment

A Peabody, Mass., man has been charged with stealing almost $1 million worth of iPads and other Apple products from his employer.

Federal prosecutors say 33-year-old Michael Denning was the director of technical and developmental operations at a South Boston media technology company.

Authorities say soon after he was hired in 2010, he used his official position to order extra computer equipment, which he intercepted and then sold for cash on eBay and Craigslist. He is also alleged to have generated and submitted fraudulent invoices so his company would pay the vendor that sold him the equipment to make the purchases appear legitimate. He often said the purchases were for “new hires.”

He was charged with mail fraud and filing false tax returns.

His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
