The Vermont Transportation Agency says keeping the state’s road clear after last week’s storms cost the state about $2.2 million.
The agency says that after the storms began Tuesday crews plowed or treated roads for more than 120 hours continuously, covering 185,000 lane miles. Agency crews used 12,600 tons of salt and 230,000 gallons of brine.
The estimate comes as state officials say they’re going to ask the Federal Emergency Management Agency to see if the state could qualify for disaster assistance. More than 100,000 electric customers were without power at some point during the week.
The FEMA assessment is needed to qualify for federal public assistance to help cover the cost of cleanup and recovery from the storms.
As of late Monday, utilities reported about 2,500 customers without power.
