New Hampshire’s new fire academy is being named for its longest-serving member of the Executive Council.
The Raymond S. Burton North Country Fire and EMS Training Facility in Bethlehem is scheduled for a dedication Friday and an open house on Saturday.
The Caledonian Record reports the academy is the second one in New Hampshire; the other is in Concord. For more than a year, volunteers have donated their time and skills to remake the former Forest Service complex.
In 2012, the New Hampshire Legislature passed a bill that authorized a $550,000 appropriation to establish a fire training facility in the North Country.
Burton, who represented the North Country, died in November after serving on the council for nearly four decades.
