A plan to repair the seawall in downtown Troy, N.Y., is moving ahead.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved $1.33 million for design and engineering work related to the project.
The seawall was damaged in 2011 by floods from Tropical Storm Irene. The structure was built in 1922 to protect Troy from flooding and hasn’t seen a major upgrade in more than 30 years.
Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia says the funding announcement is welcome news. The entire cost of the project is estimated to be about $9 million.
