A personal trainer who hurt himself climbing a boulder in a New York City park is suing the city and park managers, saying they should have advised adventurers to keep off the rock.
Jonathan Stock’s suit was first reported Sunday in the New York Post. The 32-year-old tells the newspaper he decided to try climbing the steep, 8-to-10-foot-tall stone in Manhattan’s Hudson River Park in June. The rock is part of a sculptural stone arrangement.
Stock says he jumped on, tried to stand, fell and ruptured his Achilles tendon.
His lawyer, Andrew Spinnell, says the city and the Hudson River Park Trust were negligent by not installing a no-climbing sign.
City lawyers and the trust declined to comment.
The suit was filed this week and seeks unspecified damages.
