Philadelphia Landlord Sued in Fatal Apartment Balcony Collapse

A civil lawsuit has been filed against the owner and landlord of a Philadelphia apartment building where a fire escape balcony collapsed, killing one man and seriously injuring two women.

The suit was filed Monday by the families of 22-year-old Albert Suh and 24-year-old Laura O’Brien.

Suh died and O’Brien suffered a broken back and other serious injuries in the Jan. 12 collapse of the balcony attached to their apartment in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood.

The roommates were hosting a birthday party and stepped out onto the fire escape when the platform collapsed.

A third roommate is not part of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit names landlord Alex Khorram and his company the Khorram Group of Newtown Square as defendants. Khorram couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
