New Jersey Roofer Indicted for Alleged Insurance Fraud

Authorities have charged the head of a central New Jersey roofing company with stealing more than $265,000 through alleged insurance fraud.

The state attorney general’s office says Charles Kelcy Pegler Sr., was indicted Thursday for theft by deception, insurance fraud and other charges.

The 55-year-old Spring Lake resident is the president of Roof Diagnostics, Inc., in Wall.

Prosecutors allege he provided false and misleading information to the company’s workers’ compensation carrier.

Prosecutors claim that between 2002 and 2009, Pegler stole from the New Jersey Casualty Insurance Company by creating the false impression that RDI was not a roofing company, that it did not employ roofers and that it did not install, maintain or repair roofs.

It was not immediately known if he has retained an attorney.
