The town of Rollinsford, N.H., is holding a meeting next week addressing safety concerns on Route 4, where a Minnesota woman on her honeymoon was killed in a collision.
Selectman Patrick Carroll said the board will welcome suggestions at the meeting planned Monday at 7 p.m. He told Foster’s Daily Democrat that following the meeting, he would ask the Highway Safety Committee to discuss the matter further before reaching out to the state. Route 4 is a state road.
“After the death of this woman, I believe all of us here in town feel we owe it to her family to do something,” Carroll said. “We also owe it to our families to work for safer roads here in town.”
He said the accident appeared to be the result of many factors. But he added that a 55 mph speed limit on a roadway with many curves, intersections and driveways does indicate a “perpetual recipe” for accidents.
The July 20 crash killed 34-year-old Leah Fonda of St. Paul, Minn., and seriously injured her husband.
The driver of the other vehicle, Matthew Tsopas of Somersworth, was charged with negligent homicide and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
