Connecticut State Police Charge 63 With DUI Over Weekend

July 9, 2013

Connecticut state police say they charged 63 people with driving under the influence and issued nearly 2,500 speeding tickets over the July 4 holiday weekend.

Troopers also wrote more than 5,600 tickets for illegally using cell phones while driving, tailgating and other moving violations from Wednesday night through Sunday evening. More than 500 people got tickets for failing to wear seat belts.

State police say no one died in the 316 accidents to which they responded.

The number of speeding tickets issued was more than double the total of last year’s July 4 holiday weekend. There were 323 accidents and 45 DUI arrests last year.
