Long Island Town Posts Workers’ Private Information on its Website

A Long Island, N.Y., town says it accidentally posted the social security numbers of 78 ambulance workers and beneficiaries on its website.

The Town of Brookhaven said Wednesday it will pursue legal action against anyone who disseminates the information.

The social security numbers and other personal information were on the website for five days.

They were posted last week by the town’s legal department.

Newsday says Brookhaven was notified about the error at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday and corrected it at 3 p.m.

The information was part of an attachment that should have been removed before a resolution was posted.

In 2010, the same type of information was accidentally posted to the town’s website. It also was an attachment to a resolution.
