I thought theft was already illegal? Of well, Schumer is here to help, and theft is a problem, so this bill must be a good thing, right?

The state laws that make this a felony already are simply not enough! We need another layer of rules to make theft really, really illegal.

Applying Schumer’s logic, any seller of a valuable commodity (it doesn’t matter) must now “keep records”. The fact it has been sitting in your barn for 20 years is not enough. Of course, anyone with the intent to steal also has the ability to manufacture a bill of sale to get away with the theft. Of course, Schumer knows this and that’s why this is pure incrementalism.

This is simply a small step toward registration of any valuable commodity with the government. Does anyone else see where this is going? Under this legislation, the seller must now prove, to the government’s satisfaction, that you actually owned it in the first place.

And what if the government is not satisfied with the proof you offer? Well, the FBI can arrest you, confiscate your commodity (that you rightfully own), force you to spend thousands to defend yourself and then after it threatens you with a half-dozen vague laws under which Jesus Christ could be indicted, you plea out and as part of the deal let the government confiscate it.

    What could go wrong?
