President Signs New Hampshire Disaster Declaration

March 21, 2013

As New Hampshire gets hit by the last snowstorm of the winter, it’s getting some federal help for the season’s worst.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday signed disaster declaration ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by the Feb. 8-10 storm that dropped up to 30 inches of snow in parts of the state.

Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and some nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis in every county except Coos and Grafton.

Gov. Maggie Hassan said Tuesday that the statewide cost was estimated to be nearly $5 million.

She says February’s storm put a significant strain on local communities, and the ongoing winter weather has pushed snow removal budgets to the limits.
