Family Sues Over Pennsylvania Judge’s Fatal Fall at Party

The family of a Pennsylvania Superior Court judge who died after a fall at an engagement party says an attorney and a catering company were negligent in his death.

A lawsuit filed by the wife and children of Robert Daniels says the judge was attending a party at the Bryn Mawr home of lawyer Sherrie R. Savett when he fell down a flight of stairs in October 2011. The 73-year-old Daniels died two days later.

The suit says the basement door was open when a member of the catering staff came quickly out of the kitchen and Daniels fell backward down the steps.

Savett’s attorney says it was a “terrible accident” but that it wasn’t his client’s fault. An attorney for the catering company couldn’t immediately be reached by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
