New Hampshire Owners Not Liable if Stolen Gun Used in Crime

February 22, 2013

The New Hampshire House has voted to grant immunity in civil cases to gun owners whose weapons are stolen and used in the commission of a crime.

The House voted 211-151 to send the bill to the Senate after rejecting a Judiciary Committee recommendation to kill it.

State Rep. Lenette Peterson, a Merrimack Republican, argued gun owners should not be victimized twice.

She also said she should not have to keep her gun locked up at home. She said if her house is broken into while she is home, her gun won’t provide much protection.

Bill opponents argued they heard no evidence showing a need for the bill.
