The old man must be running out of retirement money. If these people think they’re punishing the negligent party they’re not. The insurance company will pay the damages. Oh I forgot! It’s not about the money.
Have to comment on Jester’s comment. The way she died was due to neglect of the company- which may rise to the level of gross negligence. Between their negligence and the horrific way she died, one would only hope that the company would be exposed to punitive damages (which are NOT insurable in NY)- ie: the company would be punished financially, not the carrier.
