Federal workplace safety officials say a Rochester, N.Y., roofing contractor faces nearly $160,000 in fines for fall hazards at job sites.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it has cited A.M. Stern Inc. for repeated and serious violations of workplace safety standards while workers installed a roof in Fairport.
OSHA says inspectors were at the suburban Rochester job site twice last year and observed Stern employees exposed to falls of 15 to 30 feet while working at the unprotected edges of the building’s roof. Stern was cited for a similar violation in 2008 at a Geneseo worksite.
The contractor was also cited for other violations at the Fairport site, including failure to warn employees of fall hazards.
Stern has 15 days to comply, meet with OSHA officials or contest the findings.
