Imagine if these grand standing politicians played their proper regulatory roles as referees between undereducated policyholders and occasionally opportunistic and blatantly greedy insurers? It’s one thing to establish facts on how to determine the proper classification of a storm based on objective science, and another to make public pronouncements dictating to insurers what they must do regardless of what their policy says.

I’d like to see government officials treat the insurance industry
with the respect that such a large piggy bank deserves. Rather than dictating to insurers what coverage to apply, and which deductibles to charge, government would serve us better to thank all the hard working insurance people who we know will be helping their customers recover even as some of them are suffering from the
losses to their own homes and businesses. Communities that pull together in times like these make everyone proud of what it means to be an American!

Our justice system has taught us that unfortunately, there’s always some people, and some businesses that not only fail to meet the minimum standards of their industry, but even commit criminal acts, and of course regulators are here to deal with them. Let’s
remember to destinguish between the very few bad apples, and the vast majority who are good.

That’s my opinion, and I’m not holding my breath.
