Massachusetts Firefighter Charged in Dryer Fire

A Clinton, Mass., firefighter is facing charges in connection with a clothes dryer fire at his ex-wife’s home that caused burns to her legs and hair and which she says he caused.

Dean Weeks has been indicted on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a disabled person, wanton destruction of property valued over $250, and misleading a police investigation. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

Police say the Aug. 13 fire at Doreen Weeks’ home was caused by an explosion in the dryer.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Doreen Weeks told police her ex-husband had worked on the dryer about three weeks earlier.

Their divorce was finalized three weeks before the blaze.

Dean Weeks could not be reached for comment.
