Officials in the Hudson Valley city of Kingston, N.Y., expect repair work to start this month on an expanding sinkhole that is creeping closer to homes.
The sinkhole, formed in April near a city intersection, is being blamed on a leaky tunnel 75 feet deep that was constructed by New York City about 100 years ago.
The Daily Freeman of Kingston reports that a contract is being finalized that will allow repair work to start within two weeks.
Kingston officials tell the newspaper there has been no major structural damage to any home near the sinkhole, but some residents have reported cracks in windows and walls.
