In this case they are “putting the cart before the horse”. One horse got injured. How many bicycle curriers, pedestrians, and people in automobiles get injured in mid-town Manhattan every year. Just ban all private passenger vehicles from Midtown. Allow only permit taxis, busses, and permit limos from 190th St to 35th and 10th avenue to Lexingon.
The carriages are a hit with tourists and the ration of horse/vehicle collsisions is miniscule. These do gooders should find something that will save, not cost the city money. Here’s an idea.
Get rid of the mounted police. Now there’s a vestige of the past. It must cost taxpayers a small fortune to maintain those beasts and the cops that ride them. The only benefit, if there ever was one, was to help break up riots. I’d like to see a cost-benfit analysis of the mounted police operation.
This is not about tourists and what they pleasure…it is about the safety of the animals. No accusations are being asserted about the lack of animal care. It is about the safety of the animals. Too many motorist today are rude, selfish, rushed, inconsiderate and uncaring. The safety of these animals are at risk to these drivers. Once again, it is about the safety of the animals. Ban the carriage rides!
